Scott Maloney

Scott has spent 20 years in the animal health and pet industry, bringing an unusual combination of scientist, strategist, entrepreneur, and operator to his work.

Trained in genetics and cellular biology, he began his career as a scientist before discovering that building businesses gave him another way to solve meaningful problems. Since then, he has built and scaled businesses for large companies, startups, investors, and as an entrepreneur himself, including founding and scaling his own biotechnology company.

At CatsOnly, Scott turns long-term vision into operational reality. As Chief Operating Officer, he works across the organization to translate strategy into execution, overseeing the systems and processes behind building and operating hospitals, organizing teams, and creating the infrastructure CatsOnly needs to grow responsibly. He is often looking far down the road while making sure what CatsOnly builds today can support where it is going tomorrow.

For Scott, however, building successful organizations has never been only about the business. Animals have been part of his life since his earliest memories and were an important source of comfort and emotional safety during a difficult childhood. Growing up around his grandparents’ ranch, he spent time with horses, dogs, and especially the barn Cats. He still remembers the quiet companionship of Cats curled in his lap and one black Cat who never let him make the walk to the mailbox alone.

Those experiences continue to shape why CatsOnly matters to him. Scott sees the work as an opportunity to return some of the care animals have given him throughout his life by building an organization that can positively affect the lives of Cats and the people who love them.

His wife and children are another important compass in his work, inspiring him to build things in the world that they can be as proud of as he is.

Outside of work, Scott is a lifelong martial artist and black belt who once helped put himself through college with tournament winnings and by teaching karate. He is also an adventurous traveler and eater who has visited 52 countries and will happily try just about any restaurant if there is something on the menu he has never tasted before.
