Dr. Jason Epstein

FULL BIO

Jason has spent most of his life in veterinary medicine, starting with a middle-school job shadow and working his way from kennel technician and veterinary assistant to veterinarian and veterinary leader. Throughout his career, he has continually looked for better ways to deliver medicine, support veterinary teams, and improve the experience for Cats and the people who love them.

One experience helped shape how Jason thinks about feline medicine. After performing a dental procedure on a Cat who had been living with chronic oral pain, the Cat's personality returned in a way his family hadn't seen in years. His Cat Parent told Jason, “I didn't know I had lost my Cat, but I have my Cat back.” What had been mistaken for normal aging was actually behavior communicating a medical problem. That experience reinforced Jason's belief that understanding the whole Cat means paying attention to what their behavior may be telling us.

At CatsOnly, Jason leads the medical organization, shaping clinical standards, training, technology, and the systems that support exceptional feline medicine. Just as important to him is building a healthy, supportive Care Team culture where veterinary professionals can grow, do meaningful work, and build sustainable careers. For Jason, success means leaving veterinary medicine better than he found it and creating a profession he would be proud to see his daughter choose someday.

Many Cats have shaped Jason along the way, including Jack, his Maine Coon who was lost too soon to nasal lymphoma; Spit McGee, a frequent subcutaneous-fluids patient who became part of the family; and Buddy, the Cat whose transformation after dental care continues to influence his approach to medicine. His family is also welcoming Wynx, a one-eyed rescue from Puerto Rico, and her foster brother Wayne, a sweet orange boy.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Jason played in the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band and later in an '80s and classic-rock cover band during veterinary school. His love of snowboarding and the mountains eventually brought him to Colorado to begin his veterinary career.
