What Overdue Really Means

A year goes fast. A lot can change.

Cats are extraordinary at hiding what is happening inside their bodies. A year without a physical exam, bloodwork, or a blood pressure check is a year of potential early disease going undetected. Not because your Cat seems unwell, but because their biology is designed to mask it.

The three things most commonly overdue, and most worth addressing now, are the annual wellness exam, annual or biannual lab profiles, and core vaccinations. Together, they give us the clinical picture we need to keep your Cat healthy for years to come.

The Good News

Whatever has lapsed, we can build a plan from where your Cat is today. One visit resets the baseline, updates the record, and gets your Cat back on a schedule that makes sense for their age and health status.

What We Will Address at Your Visit
Annual Wellness Exam

A thorough nose-to-tail physical. Weight, body condition, muscle mass, eyes, ears, oral cavity, heart and lungs, abdomen, skin and coat. The baseline everything else is measured against.

Annual Lab Profiles

Complete blood count, chemistry panel, thyroid, and urinalysis. This is how we find kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and early liver changes before they become crises.

Vaccinations

We will review what is lapsed and recommend a practical update schedule based on your Cat’s age, lifestyle, and risk. We follow evidence-based intervals, not reflexive annual boosters.

Why Catch-Up Visits Matter

The longer the gap, the more valuable the visit.

  • A year in a Cat’s life is equivalent to 4 to 5 human years. A lot changes.
  • Conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD), hyperthyroidism, and dental disease are treatable when caught early, and manageable for years, but only if found.
  • Lapsed vaccinations leave your Cat unprotected against preventable diseases. Updating the schedule correctly depends on what was given and when.
  • Body weight and muscle condition changes that happen gradually are easy to miss at home. We catch them at every visit.
  • Blood pressure readings in older Cats change year to year. Missing a year of monitoring can mean missing the onset of silent hypertension.

“A Cat who goes two or three years without a full exam and bloodwork is a Cat whose early disease history we are writing in pencil. A catch-up visit gives us ink.”
